So I've been back in Kabul for nearly a week now. During that week, just about everyone else has left.
The holiday period will be quite a stretch, as Eid holidays coincide with this season. So our national staff get around 6 days off. We get at least 2. But the remaining 4 will be slow, if not the whole stretch from now until a week or two into January.
It's getting cold too. As usual with the winter onset, and thankfully, it's been quieter in the country overall and remains quiet here in Kabul.
So I've had to change the template. I put that little sidebar gizmo thing linking to my flickr account. You'll find photos of Kabul and Singapore up there. I have no clue how often I'll update it, but I'll try to remember to post something if I put up photos of Afghanistan.

I just looked at all your pictures of Kabul and environs. I loved them. I find your country fascinating. There is so much reconstruction needed. I look with hope that the day will come when your national buildings and shrines can be restored. The late model SUV's seem so out of place.

Thank you. This country is breathtakingly beautiful. I just wish I was able to get out of Kabul to see more of it.
Though, for clarification, this isn't "my" country. Only have been here for a little over a year, and my family immigrated to the US from a different nation, not Afghanistan. So I don't have much of a legacy attachment to this country, besides some roots from several generations ago.
The SUVs do seem out of place at first, but Kabul is, literally, overrun by them.
And I share your hope for this country.
